Foodbank

Foodbank is Blythswood Romania's new project. There is no new experience or revelation at the background of this project. The need around us is not getting smaller, so we can not stop thinking about how we could help poor people.

The Foodbank idea is not new in itself, but the word’s meaning is different and different in many countries. The essence is the same: to collect basic foods for those in need.

Partly we would follow the model from Great Britain; we want to work with local social services together. Based on their lists we will look for the poorest families in our area. Our support would not only be a help for a short (crisis) time – like in Great Britain –, it could also be provided for a longer period.

The project's description is just to be born in this year. Our Aid Request Group (ARG) has the big challenge to develop it together with a workplan for the next quarter. Through this project we would like to build a good relationship with the christian churches in Cluj-area. We can imagine our role just as inter-mediators: we could transport their grant with their christian message together.

Through Foodbank we could also support our already running social projects (see: BASIS Project), especially if we set up the permanent collecting points. There are other opportunities in Foodbank – Events too. They could be a simple visit at a church/school/institute with a short presentation of Blythswood Romania's activities and with food collection.
