Proiectul BASIS

Vision:

In 2010 we planned to start a new social project to support 30 poor families on a monthly basis for a period of one year. In collaboration with the local mayor's offices/local social services and other experienced organizations we want to provide a way to achieve self-sustainability to people in need. In the long run it may mean an aid in cultivation of vegetables, fruits and/or in stock-raising. On a shorter term it would mean an advice in obtaining a job, or a social intermediation for disabled people: help to obtain sickness pension or a personal nurse (care provided by the Romanian State).

As the Project's name (BASIS) indicates, our services are designed to be a basic aid for those who come from a disadvantaged background, but want change in their lives and are ready to make efforts towards it.

From March the 1st, 2011 we started helping 30 families selected for six months. After this period the project will be evaluated, we will assess the project's successes and re-discuss the conditions and the basic concept.

The services offered can be grouped into the following areas: distribution of food packages, regular grant of clothes and footwear, emotional support, social and pastoral counseling (discussions about life-changing possibilities, practical tips).

At the beginning of the project the beneficiaries sign a Contract for the provision of social services  with Blythswood Romania. This Contract includes the conditions to get this aid and it is tailor-made for each beneficiary.

The procedure of distribution:

Blythswood Romania will provide basic food for an amount of 50 RON/family/month. The food will be bought by the project's volunteers or responsible employee: Alexandru Szitas. They will prepare the packages for the families, and distribute them, carrying the goods directly to the beneficiaries.

The social-pastoral and emotional counseling consists mainly of the recipient's visit. The beneficiaries will have the possibility to tell about their life or to ask for help and advice. At these meetings volunteers and employees of Blythswood will read the Bible and will try to motivate people who are able to work to find a job and start being self-sustaining. The beneficiaries will get practical help regarding this topic.

After each visit we will make an evaluation report about the visited family to follow their development.

Beneficiaries:

People living in the county of Cluj, being in one or more of the following categories:

  • families without income and without possibility to  realize income, or families with income under 300 RON/month/family.

  • orphans / widows / elderly people who are at the limit of existence.

  • families with special needs: presence of physically and/or mentally handicapped family members

  • people who do not receive aid from other organizations / communities.

Candidates are those recommended by the responsible employee (Alexandru Szitas) and by the local social services. Beneficiaries will be selected by an aid request group for a period of one year. During selection BASIS Project does not take into account political views, religious or ethnic affiliation.
